Automotive manufacturer Subaru agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that certain vehicles with EyeSight driver assistance systems have defects in the pre-collision braking, rear automatic braking and lane-keeping assist features.
The Subaru settlement benefits current and former owners and lessees of certain 2013 to 2024 Subaru vehicles equipped with EyeSight driver assistance systems. A full list of covered vehicles can be found on the settlement website.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim that Subaru EyeSight systems are defective and fail to perform as advertised. Further, they argue that Subaru has knowledge of these dangerous defects but has failed to rectify the situation.
Subaru has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Subaru EyeSight settlement, class members can receive a warranty extension and reimbursement for out-of-pocket repairs.
The settlement extends the New Vehicle Limited Warranties for Subaru EyeSight vehicles to cover 75% of the cost of repairs for pre-collision braking, rear automatic braking, and lane-keeping assist failures. This extension lasts for four years or 48,000 miles, whichever comes first. If a vehicle’s original warranty expired before July 29, 2025, the extension will last four months from this date.
Class members who paid for repairs covered by the warranty extension can receive 75% reimbursement for one repair covered by the settlement. To receive reimbursement, class members must provide proof of payment and other documentation.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 28, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the Subaru settlement is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2025.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Sept. 27, 2025.

My Subaru Crosstrek Eyesight gives unnecessary warnings at random times- hate having it on my car because I have never had an accident in 40 years driving without the technology- so I would rather not have it. And it’s a shame that the manufacturer wants you to actually have an accident and have a repair done to be able to file a claim instead of fixing the problem in the first place.
Hi Kevin, I took my forester to the dealership yesterday because my car slammed on the brakes going 60 mph on the hi way two times andI was terrified that I would be rear ended! The car almost came to dead stop ! I was terrified ! And just went into grandma mode until my heart slowed down. When I got into town and going slow with traffic it happened again and the driver behind me layed on his horn and flipped me off . By the time I got home I was panicked and stressed! I went to the mailbox and there was a piece of mail notifying me of the recall and law suit…I was relieved that it wasn’t something I did and called a local dealership and made an appointment for a few days later. When I arrived no one seemed to know anything about a”problem “ but they were kind and gave me a courtesy car to drive while they checked it out . So I merged back onto the highway, didn’t have cruise control on ,stayed in the right lane and slow and approach a car on the side of the road and the loaner car did the same thing ! Now the broken car wasn’t even close to the lane . It was terrifying! The next day I drove it back to the dealership where they told me my cars eyesight was fine… don’t know who to trust and I don’t want me or anyone to get hurt ! What is it going to take before they correct this problem ?! You don’t even have to be driving a Subaru to get kill by one !😳
My mom has a 2021 Subaru forester touring model that has 31000 miles & is pure junk! She has had 2 replace the battery 3 times so far due to battery drain which Subaru will not test properly to track down the source of the drain. They say it’s just the battery! yeah, right! Then it has the problem with the infotainment center constantly rebooting further exacerbating the battery drain but that has a warranty extension on it, for the 1st time they try 2 repair it anyway. It also has the low flow fuel pump issue causing it to miss like a vehicle that needs a tune up bad but it’s the fuel pump. Subaru should replace this defective part with regular flow fuel pumps. A vehicle that costed $37000 with only 31000 miles shouldn’t b having all these problems! Subaru needs to own up to their screw up with these vehicles because they r ruining their reputation & losing customers!
So claim must be made in 2025 to extend warranty on my 2024 to 4 years , yet I can’t put in a claim unless I’ve already had it repaired outside of warranty while my warranty is still good for another year? Who writes these crappy class actions?
Only 75% reimbursement? What kind of warranty extension is that? Who negotiated this settlement?
I have a 2021 Crosstrek and so do I need to call subura to get it fix and claim my lawsuit for it.
It’s funny to me how people rely so heavily on these systems. How about turn them off and drive the car yourself. God forbid you actually have to pay attention while driving.
Came here to say that as well. Whenever I drive my grandparents Outback, I turn all that crap off. I hate most tech in cars.
I have a problem with my eye sight on my 2016 Outback. It consistently goes on and off while I’m driving. When it goes on the radio turns off and if I have cruise control on, that shuts down. I’ve had it to 3 different Subaru dealers they can’t find the problem. 1dealer had my car for 3 days and when they returned it to me I was told it was fixed but it wasn’t.
Lol if you’re relying on this stuff to stop etc then you need to turn licences in
I’m not relying on eyesight to stop or keep me between the lines, but when the system does a hard break for no reason and there is a car behind you, you hope the driver has quick reflexes. Also, the eyesight function will think the line to the lane is somewhere it isn’t and will pull me to the other side of the road. This is scary and I’m glad someone has taken the time to make Subaru correct these issues. I have gone to Subaru to have them realign my eyesight system and they told me that there is nothing wrong with it. Obviously they lied if they already were aware of the problem. An LOL in this case is unwarranted.
The same thing happened to us. On the expressway going 70 MPH..it kept breaking..so scary. Called Subaru where we bought the car..told maybe the sun. Weird excuses made no sense. Figured if cars were near us could have been killed.
Our car is a 2022 Forester…ordered and bought new..
We are looking to trade in…thinking not another Subaru.
I have also had similar experiences. I have a 2022 Outback Wilderness that I bought basically off the truck (I have put every mile on the engine except for the 1st mile) and have had many different issues with my vehicle. The first time my Outback randomly slammed on the breaks (for no reason) scared the s*^t out of me, my passenger and the driver of the vehicle driving behind me (they pulled over behind me). I was on the freeway going 60-65 mph when my breaking system slammed on my breaks causing me to almost come to a stop (from 60 mph to 10 mph almost unstantly). I have had my outback in and out of the shop at the dealership since I bought it, but they could never get it to do the same thing so they just return my car and say they could find anything wrong. I have never had to have repairs done because of the eyesight breaking system so does that mean I can’t get the warranty extension? I have had lots of other issues with my outback since drove it off the lot. Looking into trading it in and going for the vehicle I was waiting for before I found the outback.
